Jewellery Making Classes


Jewellery making classes at Banjos Bead House are a great way to relax, unwind and learn some new skills to enable you to express your creativity. We provide a relaxed environment with lots of support to help you learn and practice your new skills. Lynda Taylor is our teacher. She has been beading for more than 15 years and completed many courses along the way. With a keen eye for detail and design she is also quick to work out how to make things if she is shown a prototype or pattern.
To accommodate customer’s individual circumstances we do not offer a set program, Banjos Bead House classes can be booked at times to suit individual requirements. We offer classes Wednesdays to Saturdays between 10am and 4pm or at other times by arrangement.
Banjos Bead House offers classes to suit individual skill levels, learning styles and availability.
General Classes

Jewellery Making Taster Class
If you have not done any jewellery making before or not for a long time this is the perfect class for you. Our friendly team will give you lots of support and encouragement as you master new skills and enjoy creating beautiful jewellery.
In this class you can choose between making necklaces, earrings and bracelets. You will be given an introduction to basic tools and techniques and we guarantee you will have some lovely pieces to take home at the end of the class.
Time: Please allow up to 2 hours for this class.
Cost: $50. Class fee includes teaching time, use of tools, a basic materials kit* and a selection of glass beads to work with.

Design your own class
Design a class of your own choice. For example you may have seen a piece that you would like to make or you may want to learn a particular skill.
Time: We will give you an estimated time based on what you want to do in your class.
Cost: $25 per hour of class time. Class fee includes teaching time and a basic materials kit*. Other materials used are additional.
We suggest you bring your own tools if you have them.

Studio Time Class
If you have jewellery making skills but are not sure what you would like to make, have an idea but are not sure how to make it, or have a photo or a pattern of something you would like to make and need help this is the perfect class for you. Our friendly team will work with you to develop or clarify your ideas and create your piece.
Time: We can give you an estimated time based on what you want to do in your class.
Cost $25 per hour. This includes teaching time and a basic materials kit*. Other materials used are additional.

Repairs and Re-Design class
In this class you will work with beads you no longer wear and learn how to re-design them into something new. You will also learn how to do basic repairs on your broken items.
Time: Please allow 1.5 hours for this class
Cost: $30 plus $5 for use of tools (or bring your own). This includes teaching time and a basic materials kit*. Other materials used are additional.

Bedazzlilng techniques class
This class is especially designed for those involved in making dance costumes and accessories or wishing to learn how to bedazzle clothing, material and other items such as shoes and hair accessories.
In this class you will learn how to attach flat back crystals to a variety of materials using glue, stitching or tools (bejeweler).
Time: Please allow 30 minutes for this class
Cost: $15 + materials. Materials vary depending on individual requirements.

Mother and Child
Spend some creative time with your child having fun and learning new skills. A Banjos Bead House Mother and Child class provides a fun bonding opportunity with the added bonus of some lovely pieces that you have created together.
This class includes tuition and all materials for you both to make three pieces and morning or afternoon tea. Options include: bracelets, necklaces, pendants, earrings, key rings or bookmarks.
This class can also be an opportunity for anyone with a close adult child relationship to enjoy some creative time together eg Father and Child, Grandmother, Grandfather, Aunt or Uncle and Child, older cousin and child.
Time: Please allow 1.5 hours for this class Cost: $50 (includes a range of beads, findings and pendants for one adult and one child to make 3 pieces each).
Make and Take Class Kits
We have a number of make and take class kits available based on a particular project. Class kits include all materials and tuition as well as an estimated completion time.

Kumihimo
Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braid-making. Cords and ribbons are made by interlacing strands. Kumihimo is Japanese for "gathered threads". In these classes you will learn how to create a braided cord on the Kumihimo disc and make it into a bracelet.

Fundamentals
For those wanting a complete introduction to jewellery making Banjos Bead House offers a Fundamentals Class Program which provides a practical introduction to all of the basic skills needed in jewellery making. Completing this course will give you the skills and confidence to use tools and materials to tackle a variety of jewellery making projects. Participants who complete the Fundamentals Course (all sessions) will receive a certificate of achievement
Fundamentals are scheduled in sessions of 2 classes run one following the other. Each session runs for between two and two and a half hours. You can select one or as many sessions as you need to build up your fundamental beading skills. Each of these classes is focused on a specific skill and you will be introduced to the tools needed for each skill. The cost includes use of all of the tools needed as well as a range of materials to use in your piece.
